Stop parking in A6 cycle lane

Stop parking in A6 cycle lane

Cycle lanes become unsafe and unusable when cars park in them. This is exactly what happens on the A6. Cars which park in cycle lanes should receive parking tickets, or cycle lanes should be protected so that it is impossible for cars to drive into them.

Points

We want to encourage cycling and discourage driving. Giving cyclists safe, usable routes is fundamental.

Could councils put new road signs which state that penalties can be imposed if a car is parked in a cycle lane?

Legally, any cycle lane with solid white lines is one in which motorists should neither park nor drive. I would be delighted to see more of these, but only if there was also the will to enforce the law against those who obstruct them.

A team with a good road map and local knowledge of routes should be able to come up with a plan for an integrated set of routes in, out and across Preston even if limited to start with. Nice to think that Preston Council will do it but realistically if you want something badly enough it is no use waiting for someohe else to do it. A feasible plan then push to implement. Yes fines for bike lane parking and cycling with no warning bell. Safety works both ways.
