Safeguarding Wied Ghomor

Safeguarding Wied Ghomor

I am requesting that the new Government will ensure that the last open space between Swieqi, San Gwann and St. Julian's will be considered as a no go area for any sort of development. Landscaping should happen in the Government owned area to ensure that residents of these 3 villages have a space to go in an otherwise concrete jungle

Points

We have to take a stand against any developments in the last remaining open space.

We do not have any open green areas left in this area, we need to safeguard wied ghomor in what is otherwise a concrete jungle!

We don't have enough open spaces. The least we can do is preserve the few we have left - especially around Swieqi where it seems to have become a 'free for all' war zone!

When are we going to understand that we need nature for our survival? Wied Ghomor serves this purpose.

The precious little open spaces all over the island should be fully protected at all costs. No more rationalisation, or any other excuses, for that matter.

Preserving one of the last open green spaces in the locality should be a priority.

We need these open spaces. Our locality is under siege by developers.

I believe strongly in the protection of the environment. this area is overdeveloped and so the last bit must be protected as a lung in the area for the benefit of those living nearby. Its time that politicians give importance to quality of life and not just the construction industry (which is only benefitting the economy in the very short term and which will ultimately leave a very poor legacy on our future generations).

I fully support this idea, being from St. Julians

Swieqi is a concrete jungle. It is the only open space we have left for our children

I support this idea because Malta is suffocating in a concrete jungle and ANY green area left must be preserved. We need laws in favour of the permanent conservation of nature. We need nature to survive.

I agree fully because we live in a concrete jungle already and we absolutely MUST preserve the few areas of greenery left.

Wied Ghomor has been threatened and built in for several years. It is the only lung in our already over-built area ( Swieqi, St Julian's and San Gwann). In it there is considerable beautiful flora and fauna. Amongst the fauna there is the lizard, hedgehog, bats, bees, become, duqaqa tat- toppu, sparrows, huttaf ... Not to mention migrating birds that visit our area to rest and continue their journey. Also there is also farmed land that should be protected from any more pollution.

I grew up playing in Wied Ghomor Valley. Most of my hometown is ruined already but please stop any further development!!

Because it is a lung for Swieqi and San Gwan

It is a shame that this should even be an issue ! NO to any development in Wied Ghomor... or any valley for that matter 😕

I support keeping Malta as green as possible...we don't need more cranes blotting the horizon, nor do we need more stone or concrete. We, and more importantly our children and grand-children, need us to protect our open spaces...And those spaces need trees ++++++. We need this not only for the quality of the air we breath, but also for our eyes to be rested and our spirits comforted/restored.

Quality of Life is imperative!

I support this proposition heart and soul. We need more trees not more buildings. Plant as many trees as you can in Wied Ghomor. Mary Anne Lauri

It is not enough to just protect the area by not allowing any new developments, the Goverment needs to invest and create a park which would be similar to Cental Park in New York, a place where all persons can unwind and relax without the constant sounds of the urban jungle that surrounds the area.

I agree to preserve the only bit of fresh air left in the area. The farmers should be encouraged and helped to continue working their fields. Allotments should be offered to the residents who would like to grow their own vegetables. Plant more trees. Passages along the terraces should be created for joggers. The derelict building on one side of the valley should be transformed into a petting farm and a research centre for endangered creatures like chameleons, hedgehogs, ladybirds, butterflies.
