DIGITIZING OF MATERIAL IN PUBLIC MUSEUMS

DIGITIZING OF MATERIAL IN PUBLIC MUSEUMS

It would be highly beneficial to all local and foreign researchers to have available online documents, photographs, material available in public deposits, museums etc. Understandably this is a huge undertaking, as it entails digitizing and database input but it is a way to increase appreciation, knowledge and networking of what our public collections contain. Starting it and working slowly on such a project would start putting us in line with international museums and entities.

Points

Great idea. The way researchers can access such information makes our heritage , artistic, literary and cultural, available to the entire world.

A stand-alone Parliamentary Secretary or Minister for Culture should be re-instated. Culture is one of our best resources, which alas, has not really been exploited enough. A cultural portfolio should not be relegated as part of a Ministry but should be given the importance it is due. Furthermore, as a note on cultural budgets, increasing the amount of curators, assistant curators etc; at Heritage Malta has only given rise to red-tape and confusion.

Great idea. The UK have something similar - https://artuk.org
