Before the last general election, there was a petition to transform the site of the opera house ruins in Valletta into a Cultural Centre which would host a state of the art public library. The petition was signed by over 500 people (see https://www.ipetitions.com/petition/culturalcentre_valletta/) and presented to the PM of the day Dr Gonzi. What we got instead is an open air theatre as part of the Renzo Piano project which is used sporadically around the year. I still believe in this project.
I have yet to see a commitment by a political party for a designated building to be built as a modern public library. Whoever commits to such a project will get my vote.
