Dignity for Mental Health Patients

Dignity for Mental Health Patients

I would like to see a complete overhaul of the facilities at Mount Carmel Hospital. I have had a very dear member of my family admitted there last year and I must say that the place is in a horrible state. Let us not forget that these patients are the most vulnerable ones and therefore those who deserve most care and attention. It is not acceptable in this time and age that our loved family members and friends should be subject to live in an undignified manner.

Points

I have worked at MCH for more than 40 years, today I am retired. The hospital is more than a 100 years old, it is impossible to upgrade due to restrictions on old buildings. A new smaller and acute hospital is needed, if at all possible close to MDH. Another thing I would like to see, is the number of persons with intellectual difficulties still residing at MCH. Something has to be done for these unfortunate people who should have never been admitted there in the first place.
