Increase the national birth rate

Increase the national birth rate

The birth rate in Malta currently stands at 1.38 births per woman (below EU average of 1.58). Combined with an ageing population this could spell disaster for the future of the Maltese economy. Measures should be introduced to encourage families to have more children whilst minimizing the effects that this may have on the parent's careers.

Points

The islands are overpipulated, the world is overpopulated, no more babues please! With regards to work force, I think our best hope is to invest in the work force that we are trting to push away -imigrants, asylum seekers, etc.. Moat of these are young, healthy, eager, intelligent and hoping for an opportunity to have a decent job. I'm sure investing in these guys would be better for the economy than babies :)

What about the extra tax single people like me will hae to pay? Honestly when someone comes up with this idea it brings to mind a breeding farm.

We are already over-populated on this tiny island. The last thing we need is even more people. And besides, how would you go about this? You can't exactly force people to have children can you?

The Maltese population is set to start declining as soon as 2030. A minimum birthrate rate of 2.x is required to replace the existing population. This is not some new phenomena, other EU countries (such as Denmark) have been trying to tackle this problem for the past few years. Failing to make amendments will result in the crumbling of the current welfare system and a lack of qualified talent for our economy.
