While other countries have their own funding bodies for STEM, the 'system' here stops at the students, forgetting the fact that it is the principal investigators or supervisors that need to cater for ongoing research. The university does not receive enough money for funding research, and at the moment, even that little is far from being distributed fairly. We need funding programs that are transparent and structured because as things stand, we are better off setting up our research groups abroad
